This is Market Place

We took to the streets to really understand how people feel about Market Place. We have listened to comments and will develop maps of what we have been told. We will use what we have learned to improve the area.

“Look at theses pavements, they are terrible, it is just a mess. A nice pedestrian area needs to be created.”

“Reading has a lot of nice buildings, they are doing a good job of restoring the area, but they need to keep going and not give up.”

“We stopped after my shift to get some lunch at the street market and have a cup of tea. It is nice this market, we enjoy coming here.”

“Reading has been a ***hole since the 70’s. I know because I was born here. It wants to be London, but it’s not, it’s a commuter town. An overpriced one. People who can’t afford to live in London, live in Reading. Reading used to have character. If you look up above street level you can see the beautiful architecture.”

“I am getting quite disgusted about the number of premises in Reading that catch fire, randomly. Or which are allowed to degrade until they need to get torn down. Then they are turned into flats. Buildings are allowed to decay until they are permitted to be turned down.”

“There is a first class bus service in Reading. Parking is very expensive but the bus service is great.”

“Making it nicer to look at doing a bit of tidying would encourage people over. We like the market here. They should make it more like Camden Market”

“Some of the buildings need improving.”
